DR JAMES "PAT" McGINNIS, 89 of Moberly passed away Friday, March 2, 2012 at Moberly Regional Medical Center. Pat was born October 4, 1922 in Huntsville, Missouri the son of John J. and Mollie M. (Chesser) McGinnis. He graduated from Huntsville High School in the class of 1939.

James married Lyla Jean Thomas on December 3, 1949 in Moberly, Missouri. Tom and Margaret Burckhartt stood up with them during the ceremony.

Mr. McGinnis served his country in the Army during WWII he later joined the Army Air Corp as a Bombardier on a B 24 Bomber. Pat graduated from the University Of Missouri School Of Veterinary Medicine in 1955. James McGinnis and Bob Basnett opened McGinnis and Basnett Veterinary Clinic in Fulton. After selling his Veterinary Clinic in the 1980’s Pat went to work for the Missouri Department of Agriculture in Jefferson City. Mr. McGinnis was a member of the Huntsville United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masons, American Legion and American Veterinary Medical Association. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, stain glass, traveling, quail and pheasant hunting and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Lyla Jean McGinnis of Moberly, MO; one son, David Smith and wife Marcia of Rolla, MO; one sister-in-law, Marilynn McGinnis of O’Fallon, IL; one niece, Teri Rohr and husband Ray of Shiloh, IL; and two great nephews Alan Everett Rohr and Mckenzie Raymond “Mac” Rohr.

Mr. McGinnis was preceded in death by his parent; daughter, Patricia Jean “P.J.” McGinnis and brother, Everett T. “Mac” McGinnis.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Huntsville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Huntsville City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 PM Monday at Patton Funeral Home in Huntsville. Memorials are suggested to the University Of Missouri College Of Veterinary Medicine.
