DORIS ERLENE HAWKINS, 95 lifelong resident of Salisbury, died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at The Bluffs in Columbia, Mo. She was born November 26, 1916 in Salisbury the daughter of Wallace Gray and Edith Marie (Brockman) Wright.

Doris was a Salisbury High School graduate of the class of 1935.

She married Newell Elroy Hawkins on June 30, 1940 in Salisbury and he preceded her in death on August 1, 2001.

The Hawkins owned and operated the Hawkins Quality Food Market in Salisbury for 40+ years retiring in the early 1980’s. She was a member of the Salisbury United Methodist Church, the American Legion Ladies Auxillary, Eastern Star and Willing Workers Extension Club.

Survivors include a son David Hawkins of Wichita, Ks, daughter and son-in-law, Donna and John Callaham of New Douglas, Il, two sisters-in-law, Virginia Hawkins of Kansas City, Ks, and Lucille Wright of Salisbury. Four granddaughter’s Kathryn Marie Hawkins, Tressa Callaham, Julie Avirett and Melissa Callaham and one great granddaughter, Brianna Avirett, one nephew, Phillip Wright, and three nieces, Carol Harvey, Kathy Nelson and Janice Salle. Doris was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, John Wright.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 11:00a.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with burial in Eastlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Salisbury. Visitation is from 10:00a.m. until service time Saturday. Memorials can be made to either the Dulany Library or Salisbury Senior Center.
