VERNON S POWELL,
79, died Monday, November 21,
2011 at Loch Haven Nursing Home in Macon. Vernon was born January 24,
1932 in Moberly, MO the son of Lowell Stephen and Maudie Frances (Young)
Powell. He married Nellie Dobbins on March 20, 1953 in North Kansas
City, MO.
Vernon was a graduate of North
Kansas City High School, class of 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy
during the Korean Conflict. Vernon worked as a commercial fisherman, a
construction worker and helped built the Thomas Hill Power Plant,
custodian for the Salisbury High school for many years, driver for organ
bank , a delivery man for the banks in the area, owned and operated
several restaurants and bought and sold fish. He was of the Baptist
faith.
Vernon is survived by his wife
Nellie Powell of Salisbury, a son Tab Stephen Powell of Moberly, MO, a
daughter Valorie Marie Hurt (James) of Salisbury, MO, a sister Mary
Biere (Maurice) of Salibury, brother-in-law Glen West of Salisbury, four
grandchildren Jason Hurt, Elizabeth Powell, Layton Powell, Sara Lange,
two great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, several nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Patty
West.
Graveside services with
Military Honors will be Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the
Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO, under the direction of
Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Memorial contributions may be
made to the Salisbury First Baptist Church.
