MILDRED ELIZABETH SMITH, 95, of Salisbury, MO died Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Moberly Nursing and Rehab. Mildred was born in Shackelford in Saline County west of Marshall on March 28, 1916 the fourth child of Anna Vincentia McDonough and James Raphael Thompson. She was married on April 9th, 1939 to Roy Lavern Smith at the St. Joseph Church Rectory in Salisbury with her sister Margaret and her brother Robert as attendants. After living in the Kansas City area and working there for a few years they returned to the Hamden community and were engaged in a livestock operation buying, feeding and selling fat cattle. Mildred was a devout Catholic with a rosary, novenas, and prayer book on the table at all times. She was a helpmate to her husband and housewife.

Mildred is survived by her one child Mary Ann Penrod and husband Kay Duane of Salisbury area. One grandson C. Michael Penrod survives of the Columbia area. Great grandchildren are Kyle allen and Faith Nicole Penrod of Rothville. Also surviving are dear friends Jenny Craig, Judy and Jeff Gray.

Family graveside services are 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Mt. Olivett Cemetery in Marceline under the direction of Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Memorials are suggested to the Immaculate Conception Cemetery Association and may be left at the Summerville Funeral Home or mailed to Robert Grotewiel at 18255 Hwy 129, Salisbury, MO. 65281.
