RUTH LENORE NAYLOR,
83, longtime resident of
Salisbury, died at Lenoir Nursing Center in Columbia, MO on July 31,
2009. She was born on October 24, 1925 at Callamura, the home of
her grandparents. Fielding Parker and Nell Ulrey Sizer Sr. in
Monett, MO. She was the daughter of William Elwood and Ruth Lenore
Sizer Rogers.
Surviving are her children and
their spouses, Jackson Benton Naylor, Columbia; Roger Jefferson and
Kathy Naylor, John Porter and Sandy Naylor, all of Salisbury; Walter Lee
and Sharon Naylor, Ken and Melissa Naylor Applegate, Elwood Parker and
Dana Naylor, all of Columbia; nine grandchildren, Jeff, Chris, Ryan,
Hope, Abigail Naylor of Salisbury; Will, Dan, Joseph, Hunter, and Aubrey
Naylor of Columbia, MO; step grandchildren Keith and Soraya Applegate of
Japan, and Julie Applegate of Fayette, MO.
She is also survived by a
brother and a his wife, Sinclair and Jane Rogers of Monett, MO; a sister
Alice Kathleen Frisbie of Fayetteville, North Carolina; sister-in-law
Jodie Rogers of Athens, Tennessee; a cousin, Captain Harry Melville
Rogers (Ret.) of Avenue, Maryland; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by
husband Jackson J. Naylor in February 1998, her parents, a brother Bill
Rogers of Athens, Tennessee, a cousin Donald S Rogers of Indianapolis,
Indiana and Parker Sizer of Monett, MO, two grandchildren John Nathan
and Elizabeth Lenore Naylor.
Because of the nature of her
father's vocation, Mrs Naylor lived as a young child in the Rio Grande
Valley near Donna, Texas and Mt Vernon, MO. Later in the mid
1930's, the family moved to the Will Vivion farm near McCredie/Hatton,
MO. Often during the summer months she and her family would visit
their father as he was Project Superintendent in the CCC at some of the
larger state parks in southern Missouri.
Mrs Naylor graduated from
Fulton High School in 1944 and University of MO in 1948 with a B.S. in
Home Economics and Art. She was employed with the Gas Service Co
of Pittsburg, KS recalibrating recipes and demonstrating the new gas
appliances being manufactured after WWII.
She later taught home
economics at Salisbury High School from 1950 to 1951. On August
11, 1951 she married Jackson Naylor of Salisbury. Together they
were active in farming and operating Naylor Fertilizing Service, an
agribusiness concern. She was active in 4-H, and Extension
Council. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and drawing. She
spent many years writing the family histories on the Sizer, Rogers,
Kitchen and Naylor families.
Mrs Naylor was baptized into
the Christian faith as a child and was a 50+ year member of First
Christian Church of Salisbury. She was a 60 year member of the
P.E.O. of Salisbury Chapter BD.
Visitation will be Sunday,
August 2 at 1:00 PM. Funeral will be at 2:00 PM at Summerville
Funeral Home in Salisbury. Minister in charge will be Jodie Jackson of
Salisbury Christian Church. Organist is Jean Marie Harvey.
Vocalists are Hope and Abigail Naylor. Pallbearers are Jeff,
Chris, Ryan, Will, Dan and Joseph Naylor. In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be made to Chariton County Historical Society, P.O. Box
114, Salisbury, MO 65281.
