PORTER EUGENE PENROD, 91 of rural Salisbury, died Friday, January 2, 2009 at his home. He was born March 20, 1917 in Hamden, Missouri the son of Charles and Alma (McCurry) Penrod.

Porter graduated from Salisbury High School Class of 1937. On Oct. 17, 1942 he joined the U.S. Army serving during WWII with the “Hellcats” 56th Armored Infantry Regiment until he was honorably discharged as a Private on June 25, 1943.  Porter married Ruby Rodgers on January 28, 1956 at the Clifton Hill Methodist Church and she survives of the home.

Mr. Penrod lived in O’Fallon, Missouri where he worked as a machinist for McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Company in St. Louis for 14 years retiring in 1979 and moving back to the home place north of Salisbury.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ruby of the home, one son and daughter-in-law, Noah and Ursula Penrod of Salisbury, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Rhonda and Roy Bennett, Laura and George Friesz, and Lisa Penrod Hays all of Keytesville, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  A daughter, Ethel Ann at infancy in 1961, grandson Caleb Wayne Hays, three brothers, Ralph, Guy and Elmo and two sisters, Murl Harman and Eunice Bloss, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 at 10:00a.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with burial with full Military Honors in the Fairview-McCurry Cemetery North of Salisbury. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 till 4:00p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Fairview-McCurry Cemetery Assn.
