MARY ELLEN CHAPMAN was born April 6, 1928 and departed this earth on March 8, 2009, at the age of 90 years and 11 months. She was born in Slater, MO, the daughter of Charles and Zeta Adams. Her youth was spent in Dillonvale, Ohio, where her father was a boilermaker with the railroad. As a teenager she lived in Slater, MO. She graduated from Slater High School in 1936, and was employed at the Brown Shoe Factory there. She married Leland Chapman of Salisbury on February 24, 1940. They resided on a farm east of Salisbury until 1973 when they moved to their home on Manor Drive. Leland died December 14, 1980. After several months of failing health Mary Ellen became a resident of Chariton Park in January of 2007.

Mary Ellen Chapman is survived by on daughter, Judy Buffington of Rockwall, TX, and three grandchildren; Kathy Roling and husband Ron of Salisbury: Karen Henke and husband, Roy of Allen, TX: Michael Buffington and wife Paige of Rockwall, TX. Also surviving are eight great grandchildren: Jonathan, Joshua, and Sarah Roling; Austin and Aubrey Henke; and Drake, Braeden and Gage Buffington. A sister-in-law, Elred Holcomb and husband Carl of New Smyrna Beach, FL also survive.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 10th from 1 until the service time at 2:00 p.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Burial will be in Salisbury City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mary Ellen Chapman will be remembered by all who knew her as a kind and gentle woman with a ready smile for everyone. She will be remembered by her family as a loving, caring, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
