LESTER HOLBROOK, 92, of Salisbury, MO, died March 10, 2009 at Bristol Manor in Salisbury. Lester was born September 19, 1916 in Benton City, MO the son of Hubert Lee and Ella Mae (Watts) Holbrook.

Lester was a graduate of Mexico High School. He moved to Salisbury in 1951, where he owned and operated Holbrook Dry Cleaners for 21 years retiring in 1972. He was the superintendent of wastewater department for the City of Salisbury for 13 years, receiving wastewater operator of the year award in 1979. He also was an assistant with the Summerville Funeral Home. Lester worked several years with the Chariton County Ambulance District, retiring in 1984. Served three terms as a board member with the Chariton County Ambulance District. Member of the Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, serving as Assistant Fire Chief. Was on the Salisbury City Council, Ward 1 from 1989-1995, Mayor Pro-Tem in 1989. Lester had the honor to have a street in Salisbury named after him. Member of the Kiwanis Club, holding offices of President, Vice-President and Treasure. Member of the Modern Woodmen of America and Moose Lodge #776, in Moberly.

Lester was a member of the First Baptist Church in Salisbury, and became a Deacon in 2002, and on December 7, 2008 he was honored as Deacon Emeritus.

Lester is survived by a daughter Barbara Shoff and husband Ronald of Weekie Wachee, FL; a granddaughter Laura Dodd-Wilbur and husband Nick of Bellevue, Washington; a grandson Robert Dodd and wife Amy Chu-Dodd of Austin, TX; three great granddaughters Ella Wilbur, Ariadne Dodd and Circe Dodd. His parents preceded him in death.

Visitation is 6-8:00 p.m., Friday, March 13, 2009 at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Services are 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Summerville Funeral Home with burial in Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Salisbury. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Salisbury.
