JOHN EDWARD FLANAGIN, 83 of Salisbury, Missouri died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at his home.  He was born December 6, 1925 in Eureka, Kansas the son of John Henry and Oleta (Scott) Flanagan.

John was a graduate of Emporia, Kansas High School and he attended college at Emporia College.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1947.

John married Stella Mae Smith on May 3, 1949 in Emporia, Kansas and she survives of the home.
John worked for years as an ironworker, working last with the Eby Construction Company before retiring in 1987. He was member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salisbury, Local 10 Ironworkers and the Mo-Kan Ironworkers in KCMO. John was an artist. Avid woodcarver, he collected and hunted Indian artifax and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Stella of the home, four sons, Patrick John Flanagin of Salisbury, Timothy Allen Flanagin and wife Susan of Champaign, Il; Joseph Michael Flanagin and wife Shelley of Lee’s Summit, Mo; Brian Paul Flanagin of Lawrence, Ks; three daughters, Terry Lynn Douglass and husband Tom of Columbia, Mo; Kelly Fray Chapman and husband Jim of Lee’s Summit, Mo; and Kathryn Ann Gallagher and husband John of Columbia, MO; one sister, Dorothy Hinch of Columbia, MO; and 15 grandchildren. His parents and a sister, Elizabeth Fricker, preceded him in death.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 6, 2009 at 10:30a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salisbury with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is Thursday evening from 6 till 8:00p.m. with 7:30 Rosary at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Memorials are suggested to the St. Joseph Catholic Church and John Flanagin Memorial Fund.
