JOSEPH "JOE" EDMUND MANSON, 79 lifelong Chariton county resident died Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at his home. He was born September 15, 1930 in rural Brunswick, Missouri the son of Henry Garrett Manson and Josephine Caroline (Meyer) Manson.

Joe graduated from Brunswick High School Class of 1948 and then attended the University of Missouri for his freshman year. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp. in 1952 and following his basic training he returned home on leave and married Ann Edwards on April 29, 1952 in Brunswick before returning to the marines for 2 years serving in the Korean War and receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1954.

Joe was Postmaster at the Keytesville Post Office for 29 years retiring in 1985. He was also engaged in farming most of his life. He was a member of the Keytesville United Methodist Church, the Keytesville Warrens Masonic Lodge AF & AM #74 and the Rucker-McAllister American Legion Post # 7 in Brunswick.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years Ann Manson of the home, one son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Joleen Manson of Keytesville, three daughters and sons-in-law, Martha Ann and Doug Sandstedt of Dallas, TX; Marilyn and David Tucker of Minneapolis, MN; and Mary Margaret and Eric Hillenbrand of Indianapolis, IN; one sister, Patricia Lenahan of Tiffiany Falls, NJ. eight grandchildren, Nicholas Manson, Erin Stapleton, Ashley Mare, Justine Aholt, Lauren Sandstedt, Sydney Tucker, Ashton Hillenbrand and Brooks Hillenbrand and several nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 25, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Keytesville United Methodist Church followed by a Masonic service. Burial in Keytesville City Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the Rucker-McAllister Post # 7 of Brunswick. Visitation is Thursday from 4 till 8:00p.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Memorials are suggested to the Keytesville City Cemetery (Perpetual Care Fund).
