JAMES EDWARD (ED) DICKERSON, 97, of Salisbury, died Monday December 28th, 2009 at Chariton Park Care Center.

He was born October 16, 1912 in Huntsville, son of Charles and Montie (Haworth) Dickerson. Mr. Dickerson graduated from Huntsville High School and then from the University of Missouri in 1934

Following college, Mr. Dickerson worked as a University of Missouri county extension agent for several counties in southern Missouri. In 1943 he returned to the Salisbury area to farm the same land for the past 66 years. He helped to establish the Soil and Water Conservation Agency in Chariton County and also served on a coal mine land reclamation organization. He served on the Chariton County Historical Board, was a member of the Salisbury United Methodist Church and served as superintendent of Sunday School for several years.

On November 4th, 1951 he married Minnie Louise Buchanan of Perry. He is survived by his wife of the home, three children Louise Stanley and husband Herb of Rocheport, Ann Sprengel and husband Archie of Cape Girardeau, and Roy Dickerson of Gladstone; four grandsons Colin Stanley of Boulder, CO, Michael, Gregory, and Russell of Cape Girardeau, sisters; Frances Dickerson and Dorothy Boltz and several nieces and nephews, and great nephews and a great niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; John and Charles, a son Jim Dickerson, and a nephew Bill Dickerson.

Funeral services were held Tuesday December 29th at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with burial in East Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were Travis Bender, Dave Boltz, Ronn Dickerson, Bob Hardwick, Ron Lockard , and Jon Moore. Honorary pallbearers were Elmer Arnsperger, Rick Heiman, and Jim Priebe.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Ed and Jim Dickerson Memorial Scholarship Fund and can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the US Bank, 218 S. Broadway, Salisbury, MO 65281.
