GEORGE LEON HAMMONS, of Salisbury died July 8, 2009 at Moberly Regional Medical Center. George was born May 4, 1923 in Bynumville, MO the son of George W. and Nora (Krager) Hammons. George was married to Margurite Wiesmann and to this union seven children were born. George married Dorothy Fern Stanley on March 23, 1982 in Orlando, FL and she survives of the home.

George was a graduate of the Bynumville High School class of 1939. He served in the US Army during WWII. Previously he had lived in Wisconsin, Florida, Tennessee, before returning to Salisbury in 1988. George was a dairy farmer and later in life he did stump grinding for many years. George was a member of the American Legion in Wisconsin, and was an avid coon hunter.

George is survived by his wife Dorothy of Salisbury; three sons Tom Hammons and wife Lauren of Oklawaha Fl; John Hammons and wife Cindy of Kissimmee, Florida; Mike Hammons and wife Valerie Hammons of Orlando, Fl; three daughters Barbara Hammons of Wisconsin; Norma Krizsan and husband Jim of Wisconsin, Becky Parker and husband Richard of Tennessee; five step-sons Ronnie Schnetzler and wife Susan of Salisbury, Rick Schnetzler of Salisbury, Roger Schnetzler and wife Brenda of Keytesville, Jeff Keeting and wife Lynne of Salisbury, Tony Keeting of Salisbury; a step-daughter Rita Hartmann and husband Steve of Salisbury; a daughter-in-law Susan Schnetzler of Salisbury; 34 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Preceding George in death were his parents; a son William “Billy” Hammons, a step-son Randy Schnetzler, four brothers Buford, Carl, Noland, Finus, a granddaughter Dawn Schnetzler and a grandson Brent Schnetzler.

Visitation is Monday, July 13, 2009 from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. with services following at 10:00 at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Burial in the Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville with military services provide by the Missouri Military Honor’s Team. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the McCurry-Fairview Cemetery Association.
