ALVIN RAYMOND MONNIG, JR, Jr., 86 of Salisbury, died December 2, 2008 at Golden Living Center in Glasgow, MO. Alvin was born June 29, 1922 in Aholt, MO the son of Alvin Raymond and Elizabeth (Nordmeyer) Monnig, Sr. He married Jeanne Roling on March 30, 1948 in Salisbury, MO.

Alvin was a lifelong area resident. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII as a flight engineer 303rd Bombardment Group (H), “Hells Angels”, and was honorably discharged in 1945. Alvin was a rural mail carrier for 25 years, owned Salisbury Milling Company, founded and operated Mary’s Call in Salisbury, since 1989. Alvin was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Salisbury Knights of Columbus, Salisbury American Legion Post 391, and the Rural Mail Carriers Association.

Alvin is survived by his wife Jeanne of the home; two sons Rick Monnig and wife Rhonda of Salisbury, Jerry Monnig and wife Melita of Salisbury; two daughters Connie Pearman and husband Jim of Salisbury, Judy Massie and husband Kenny of Salisbury; a brother Bob Monnig of Glasgow; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, brothers Joe, Julius, Charles, Herb, & one at infancy; sisters Lillian Flaspholer, Sister Valeria Monnig, Gertrude Johanning, and two at infancy; and one great grandson preceded him in death.

Visitation is Thursday, December 4, 2008 from 5-8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial is Friday, December 5th at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
