While Sue attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, she represented the state as the "healthiest girl in Missouri" at a national 4-H Convention in Chicago.  On May 18, 1947 Sue married James Wendell Ward of Huntsville and following their marriage the couple lived in Broken Arrow, OK, New Lexington, Clinton and Coshoctan, Ohio.  After the death of her husband in 1967, Sue returned to Missouri to be near her family.

Mrs Ward is survived by two children, Wendy Sue Carter of Moberly and Sheri Lynn Stewart of Fort Worth, TX; four grandchildren, Adam Carter of Edinburgh, Scotland, Anna (Carter) McMillen of Columbia, Shawn Stewart of Forth Worth, TX and Shannon Stewart, Forth Worth; one great-grandchild, Christopher Stewart of Fort Worth; and one sister Carla Anderson of Huntsville.

Active in the First Baptist Church of Moberly, Sue taught Sunday School, Bible School and GA groups for many years.  Although her most recent employment was with area childcare facilities, she had spent many years traveling to Egypt, China, Thailand, Ireland, England, Scotland, Germany, India, Singapore, Israel, Brazil, Malaysia, Chili, Bolivia and Peru.  She brought back many souvenirs from these countries and often gave presentations to various clubs, organizations and children's groups.  Many remember Sue for her dedication to enriching children's lives.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 28 at Patton Funeral Home in Huntsville and a graveside service will be at 3 pm. at the Huntsville City Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Mid-Missouri Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 1121 Business Loop 70E, Columbia, MO 65201.  Family members will also gather for a celebration of her life hosted by her granddaughter, Anna McMillen, which will be held on Sunday, June 2.
