Clyde J. Bachtel, 88, of Salisbury died December 18, 2006 at his home. Clyde was born September 25, 1918 in Triplett, Missouri the son of Harry C. and Ora (Smutz) Bachtel. Mr. Bachtel married Mildred Arnsperger on February 2, 1946 in Columbia, Missouri.

Mr. Bachtel has lived in the Salisbury community since 1992, formerly living in Bella Vista, AK and Hamilton, Missouri for 30 years. He was a pilot in the United States Navy during WWII. Clyde was the Vo-Ag teacher in Hardin for 1 year, Hamilton for 8 years, and an office manager for several Ag related industries. He was a member of the Salisbury United Methodist Church, Hamilton American Legion, Cleve Iman VFW Post 4926 of Keytesville, and the Chariton County Historical Society.

Mr. Bachtel is survived by his wife Mildred of the home; three sons Howard Clyde Bachtel and wife Elizabeth of Apollo, Pennsylvania, Edward Eugene Bachtel of Pasadena, California, Earl Robert Bachtel and wife Vicky of Yuma, Colorado; two step grandchildren Candace Marshall, Chris Weber; five step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Byron, Virgil, Donald Bachtel and a sister Beth Smith.

Visitation is Thursday, December 21, from 1-2:00 p.m. at the Salisbury United Methodist Church with Memorial services following at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment at the Salisbury City Cemetery with military services provided by the Cleve Iman VFW Post 4926 and the Salisbury American Legion Post 391. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cleve Iman VFW Post 4926 or to the Salisbury United Methodist Church.

Juanita Frances Moore, 89, of Salisbury, died December 16, 2006 at Chariton Park Health Care Center in Salisbury. Juanita was born October 16, 1917 in Huntsville, MO the daughter of Marvin R. and Lily (Minor) Lawrence. She married William F. Moore and he preceded her in death in 1985.

Juanita was a lifelong area resident. She was a homemaker and worked as a grocery clerk for Temple Stevens for several years. Mrs. Moore was a member of the Clifton Hill Methodist Church.

Mrs. Moore is survived by two sons Jon W. Moore and wife Sarah of Salisbury, MO; Larry F. Moore and wife Linda of Coal Valley, IL; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter Beverly Ann (Moore) Cooksey; and a sister Oleta Marion.

Visitation is 1-2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 20th with the services following at 2:00 p.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Burial in Clifton Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clifton Hill United Methodist Church or the Chariton Park Activities Fund.

Marvin Arthur Steinke, 79, of Brookfield, formerly of the Brunswick area died December 16, 2006 at the Life Care Center of Brookfield. Marvin was born August 29, 1927 in Miami, MO the son of Arthur John and Anna Bessie (Fisher) Steinke.

Marvin was a lifelong resident of the Brunswick area and farmer. He married Charlotte Wright and to this union a daughter Darla was born, and he married Janice Sparks and two children Marvin and Irma was born to this union.

Marvin is survived by son Marvin E. Steinke of Bosworth, MO; a step-son Charles Kenneth of Dallas, TX; two daughters Darla K of Bukner, MO, Irma Straub and husband Kerry of Brunswick; two sisters Evelyn Jennings of Festus, MO and Virginia Sparks of Brunswick, MO; ten grandchildren; one great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews, and friend and companion Bertha Cunningham. He was preceded in death his parents, two sisters Irma Weisenborn and Una O’dell.

Visitation is 1-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 with services following at 2:00 p.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery in DeWitt, MO. Memorial contributions maybe made to the DeWitt Youth Group.

Evadene Martin, 76 lifelong resident of Salisbury, died Thursday, December 14, 2006 at Bristol Manor in Salisbury.  She was born October 8, 1930 in Salisbury the daughter of Russell and Anita Mae (Hurt) Hurt.

Evadene graduated from Salisbury High School class of 1947.  She was an inspector at the Biltwell Clothing Factory in Salisbury for many years quitting in 1983 due to illness.  She was a member of the Salisbury Baptist Church, she loved bowling, playing the piano and organ and traveling with her husband.

Evadene married David Martin on March 6, 1964 in Salisbury and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1999.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Eugene Martin of Tulsa, OK and Terry Sohn and his wife Pamela of Kansas City, MO; one brother, Robert Drexel Hurt of Duncanville, TX, and one sister and brother-in-law; Norma Lou and Kenny Sanford of Salisbury.  Five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Her parents, husband and one brother preceded her in death at infancy.

Memorial graveside services will be held Monday, December 18, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Eastlawn Memory Gardens cemetery in Salisbury under direction of Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury.  No visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Rusk Rehabilitation Center in Columbia, MO.

Eleanor Ann Draper-Hinman, 73 of O'Fallon, Missouri died Sunday, December 3, 2006 at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles, MO.  She was born January 6, 1933 in Mendon, MO the daughter of L. Earl and Thelma E (Mitchell) McNeall.

Eleanor was a schoolteacher for Ft Zumwalt School retiring in 1995.  She was a member of the Tri-County Christian Church in Wentzville, MO

Survivors include her husband, Robert Hinman of O'Fallon, MO; one son, Tim Draper of Chesterfield, MO; one daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Phillip Robertson of Curryville, MO; four brothers, Leo McNeall of Sedalia, Richard McNeall of Colorado Springs, CO; Raymond McNeall and Ronald McNeall both of Keytesville, five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Her parents and first husband, Rev. Allen L Draper, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Pitman Funeral Home in Wentzville, MO with Bro. Albert McGee and Bro Tom McGee officiating.  Visitation is Tuesday from 4 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home

Graveside services will be held Thursday, Dec 7 at 1:00 pm at the Salisbury City Cemetery with Rev Rodney McNeall officiating, under direction of Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury, MO. Elsie Mae Harman, 78 of rural Salisbury, died Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at the University Hospital in Columbia, Mo. She was born January 19, 1928 in Bynumville, MO the daughter of Charles Kennard and Bertha (Smith) Billeter.

Elsie married Olin Harman on August 14, 1955 at the Bynumville Union Church and he preceded in death on June 8, 2006.

Mrs. Harman graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teacher’s College in Kirksville on August 6, 1953. She taught school for 39 years, starting in the one room school house of Wilson, Menefee, and Johnson. She also taught at Brookfield, Bynumville, and Prairie Hill, retiring in 1985. Elsie was a member of the Bynumville Christian Church and the Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law; Naomi and Raymond Boss of Salisbury, one granddaughter, Bobbie Biere and her husband Josh of Salisbury. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Bernis “Buster” Billeter, two sisters Inez Hinkle and Meryl Perod.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 10:00a.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with burial in Fitzgerald Cemetery in Bynumville. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 till 8:00p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Fitzgerald Cemetery Assn.

Dorothy J. Emmerich, 86, of Salisbury, died November 21, 2006 at Moberly Regional Medical Center. Dorothy was born July 13, 1920 in Moberly, MO, the daughter of George and Mary (Bussen) Mast. She married Maurice Emmerich on April 24, 1954 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Moberly and he preceded her in death on May 12, 1998.

Dorothy was a homemaker, who enjoyed sewing, playing cards and visiting. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Dorothy is survived by a son Carl E. Emmerich and wife Becky of Salisbury; three daughter’s Cynthia Cook and husband Ray, Debra Paino and husband Tom, Pamela Stemle and husband Larry all of Chesterfield, MO; nine grandchildren Brooke Wekenborg and husband Tim, Tony and Evan Emmerich all of Salisbury, Alex and Luke Paino, Christopher and Shelby Cook, Leyna and Nick Stemle all of Chesterfield; two great grandchildren Eli Wekenborg and Baby Wekenborg; and best friend Georgia Riley of Moberly. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers Eugene Mast, Joe Mast and one in infancy.

Visitation is 6-8:00 p.m., Friday, November 24th, with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Mass of Christian Burial is Saturday, November 25th at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph School Foundation or the American Heart Association.

Margaret A. Arnsperger, 75, of Salisbury died November 21, 2006 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. Margaret was born December 6, 1930 in Bynumville, MO the daughter of Anthony and Christine May (Gallon) Pleyer. She married Elmer Arnsperger on December 21, 1981 at the First Baptist Church in Salisbury.

Margaret was a lifelong area resident. She received her teaching certificate from the University of Missouri in Columbia. Margaret taught school for 30 years and was a 4th grade teacher at the elementary school in Salisbury. She was a member of the First Baptist, their R&R program, PEO, Chapter BD, The Little Red Hen’s- Red Hat Society, Retired Teacher’s, and former board member of the Chariton County Child Welfare committee.

Margaret is survived by her husband Elmer of the home; a son David Aylmer and wife Honee of Kansas City, MO; two daughter’s Jane Brown and husband Carl of Moberly, MO, Anne Barratt and husband Randy of Cairo, MO; a step son Don Arnsperger and wife Liz of Salisbury; a step daughter Cecelia Dotson and husband Les of Salisbury; grandchildren Amanda Aylmer, Seth and Aaron Barratt, C.J. and Nicholas Brown, Maggie Brown, Amy Swallow, Dan Arnsperger, Anne Dotson, Alane Lidolph; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Helen Virginia Pleyer.

Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 23, 2006 at the Summerville Funeral Home. Services are Friday, November 24th at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Salisbury with burial in Fairview-McCurry Cemetery. Nanette E. Colliver, 64 of Salisbury died Sunday, November 19, 2006 at the Chariton Park Health Care Center in Salisbury.  She was born July 21, 1942 in Madison, WI the daughter of Elmer and Louise (Roessler) Bryhan.  Nanette married Bill Colliver on September 18, 1965 in Grafton, WI and he survives of the home.

Bill and Nanette lived in Tina, MO from 1967 to 1976 when they moved to Salisbury.  She was a housewife and member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Salisbury.  Nanette is survived by her husband Bill of the home, her mother Louise Bryhan of Green Bay, WI, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Corey and Charlotte of Belgrade, MT and Bart Colliver of Warrensburg, MO, three sisters, Rose Smith of Green Bay, WI; Carol Gray of New York, NY; and Gina Fisher of Rio Rancho, NM; a half brother, Theodore L Malnick of Eau Claire, WI; one grandson, Ian Colliver of Belgrade, MT and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with burial in Coloma Cemetery in Coloma, MO.  Visitation is Tuesday, 6 til 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church in Salisbury.

Leonard M. Craig, 59, of Keytesville, died November 10, 2006 at his home. Leonard was born December 13, 1946 in Sigourney, Iowa the son of Arthur E. and Ella I. (Schlaser) Craig. On January 2, 1968 he married Carolyn Faris in Keytesville, MO and she survives of the home.

Mr. Craig was a graduate of Salisbury High School Class of 1964. Leonard served stateside in the U.S. Army receiving an honorable discharge on February 15, 1968. He was a meat cutter for over 30 years, starting at the Keytesville Locker, also for J & J Supermarket in Salisbury, Faulks Market in Carrollton, Quinely’s IGA in Glasgow, and Prenger’s Foods in Salisbury, Keytesville, Marceline and Marshall. Leonard was a member of the Prairie Hill Christian Church, the Rucker McAllister American Legion Post # 7 in Brunswick, and served several years on the Keytesville Fire Department and Maxwell Taylor Park Board in Keytesville.

Leonard is survived by his wife Carolyn; a son Jeffrey Dale Craig and wife Darlene of Keytesville; three brothers Earl E. Craig of Kingston Springs, TN; Dean Craig of Blue Springs, MO; Duane “Mud” Craig of Prairie Hill; two sisters Florence Hill of Booneville, MO; Kay Quinn of Salisbury; three grandson’s Dillon, Andrew, Evan Craig; several nieces and nephews. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Ed Fitzgerald.

Visitation is 4-7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 12th at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Services are Monday, November 13th at 10:30 a.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home. Burial in Asbury Cemetery with the Rucker McAllister American Legion Post # 7 providing military graveside services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Asbury Cemetery Association.

Jessie Nadean Givens, 77, of Keytesville, MO died October 31, 2006 at Moberly Nursing and Rehab. Jessie was born May 29, 1929 in Moberly, MO the daughter of Phillip and Maude (Miller) Hurst. She married William E. Givens, Sr. on October 6, 1947 in Salisbury, MO and he preceded her in death on June 29, 2004.

Jessie was a lifelong Salisbury resident, except for the past 7 years living in Keytesville. She was a graduate of the St. Joseph Catholic High School class of 1947. She was a homemaker and had worked at Chariton County Sheltered Workshop.

Jessie is survived by three sons George Givens of Salisbury, Donald Givens and wife Ruby of Salisbury, William Givens, Jr. and wife Jeannette of Huntsville; a daughter Willa Burris and husband Charles of Salisbury; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter.

Visitation is Thursday, November 2, 2006 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Services are 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 3rd at the Summerville Funeral Home with burial in Asbury Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be made to the Jessie Givens Memorial Fund.

Zola Mae Garner, 91, of Brunswick, MO, formerly of Salisbury, died October 30, 2006 at Brunswick Nursing Home. Zola was born March 10, 1915 in Salisbury, MO the daughter of John Richard and Willie Lee (Scott) Price. She married William “Buddy” Garner on May 27, 1936 in Salisbury, MO and he preceded her in death on October 10, 2005.

Mrs. Garner was a clerk for Krogers Grocery for 25 years; she was a seamstress for Gene Harper Suites and Coats; and own Garner Grocery in Keytesville, MO. She was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Garner is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers James A Price, Richard Price , Roy Price; three sisters Emma Lee Harris, Mary Jane Kelley and Rachel Price.

Visitation is Noon til 1:00 p.m., with services following at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 1st. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Moberly, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brunswick Nursing Home.

Elsie Elizabeth Smith, 96, of Kansas City, MO, formerly of Moberly and Chariton County area died October 26, 2006 at White Oak Manor in Kansas City, MO. Elsie was born February 2, 1910 in Chariton County, MO the daughter of Jesse J. and Mary (Walter) Powell. She married Andy Smith on March 2, 1928 in Keytesville, MO and he preceded her in death on July 28, 1964.

Mrs. Smith had lived in Kansas City the past 8 years, moving from Moberly where she had lived for 4 years and prior to that she lived in Chariton County. She was a homemaker and also worked at Dowdy’s restaurant in Moberly for 7 years and assisted on the farm. Elsie was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters Margie Orr of Kansas City, MO and Wilma J. Maddux of Moberly, MO; five grandchildren; ten grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers Lowell Powell, Claude L. Powell, Roy William Powell, Lawrence Hughes Powell and a sister Mary Louise Solomon.

Visitation is Monday, October 30, 2006 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. with services following and 2:30 p.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Burial in Asbury Cemetery south of Keytesville, Mo. Memorial contributions may be made to the Asbury Cemetery Association.

Andrew “Andy” I. Baer, 79, of rural Salisbury died October 26, 2006 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. Andrew was born February 24, 1927 in Prairie Hill, Missouri the son of Pete and Caroline (Long) Baer. He married Joyce Farthing on December 30, 1950 in Salisbury, Missouri.

Mr. Baer was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of the Prairie Hill High School class of 1944. During WWII he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a farmer and rep and distributor for Pioneer Seeds for 18 years. Andy was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Elk Association, Ducks Unlimited, Silver Lake Hunting Club, Mother Lodge Hunting Club and former member of the Salisbury Lions Club.

Mr. Baer is survived by his wife Joyce of the home; two daughters Denise Schneider and husband Mike of Salisbury, Gayla Olendorff and husband John of Salisbury; brother Homer Baer of Salisbury; sister Mildred Metzer of Topeka, Kansas; brother-in-law Frank Roling of Salisbury; sister-in-law Elizabeth Baer of Salisbury; three grandchildren Andrea Olendorff Rice and husband Mitchell, Stefanie Schneider, Daren Schneider all of Salisbury; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Earl Baer, sister Adelia Roling and a grandson Jeremy Schneider at infancy.

Visitation is 5-8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 29th at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Services are 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 30th at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Military graveside services provided by the American Legion Post 391 and the Cleve Iman VFW Post 4926. Eva Mae Clanton, 94, of Salisbury, MO died October 25, 2006 at Chariton Park Health Care Center in Salisbury. Eva was born March 25, 1912 in Salisbury the daughter of Everett and Rosa Belle (Johnson) Bennett. She married Elvin Estley Clanton on August 6, 1931 in Moberly, Missouri and he preceded her in death on November 18, 2004.

Eva was a graduate of the Salisbury High School and Chillicothe Business College. She lived in Long Beach, California, returning to Salisbury in 1974. She worked in a Christian Book Store and in real estate sales in California. Eva was a member of the First Baptist Church in Salisbury.

Eva is survived by a daughter Joy Mills and husband Jack of Laguna Niguel, California; two granddaughters Joy Momeyer and husband John; Jill Ann Mills both of California; two great grandchildren John Russell. and Jayden Momeyer of California; a sister Frances Callison of Salisbury; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Paul Bennett.

Visitation is 1-2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 28, 2006 with services following at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Salisbury. Burial in Prairie Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church.

Esther D. Freese, 95, of Salisbury, died October 24, 2006 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. Esther was born May 23, 1911 in Salisbury, Missouri the daughter of William and Josephine (Biere) Weiseman. She married Martin W. Freese on April 15, 1933 at Salem Lutheran Church in Forest Green, Missouri.

Esther was a lifelong Chariton County resident. She was a homemaker, member of the Salem Lutheran Church, and the Agee Extension Club. Ester enjoyed quilting, gardening, and her flowers.

Esther is survived by a son Donald Freese and wife Helen of Glasgow, Missouri; daughter Dorothy Cook and husband Richard of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; five grandchildren Daryl Cook and wife Sharon, Brenda Welch and husband Terry, Pam Welker and husband Mark, Randy Freese and wife Suzanne, Rhonda Jones and husband Dale; seven great grandchildren Nikki Dolan, Tyler Cook, Jaclyn Allison, Allie, Adam and Sydnie Freese, Maddie Jones; one great great granddaughter Nevaeh Dolan; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Martin Freese on November 26, 1985, brothers Everett, Charles, and Leonard Weiseman, and sisters Edwina Schmid, Ruth Walchshauser, Gladys Bauer, Martha Sutter and Verna Biere.

Visitation is 6-8:00 p.m., Friday, October 27th at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28th at the Salem Lutheran Church in Forest Green, Missouri with burial in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery. Jay L Bean, 85, of Fayette, formerly of Salisbury and Keytesville, died October 6, 2006 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO.  Jay was born November 12, 1920 in Vivian, Oklahoma the son of Arva and Eva (Nichols) Bean.  He married Mary Francis Davis and she preceded him in death in 1975.  On January 7, 1979 he married Leona Brandes and she preceded him in death in June 1993.

Mr Bean served in the US State Army during WWII in the European Theater, receiving an honorable discharge in 1945.  He was a farmer; worked as an outside serviceman for 21 years at the Salisbury Milling Co; Howard County Co-op for 5 years and Pilot Grove Farm Supply.  Mr Bean was a member of the Salisbury Immanuel Lutheran Church, Cleve Iman Memorial VFW Post 4935 in Keytesville and the Salisbury American Legion Post #391.

Mr Bean is survived by two sons, Gary L Bean and wife Sharon of Glasgow, MO; John Arva Bean and wife Kathy of Salisbury; daughter Bonnie J Ray and husband Jim of Blackwater; two step-sons, Lester Brandes, Jr of Lone Elm, MO and Jim Brandes of Blue Springs, MO; nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; two step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren and three nephews.  His wives, Mary Francis Davis and Leona Brandes; a son Dennis J Bean, Sept 15, 1992 and sister Lou Edith Hammentree, preceded him in death.

Memorial graveside services will be held Wednesday, Oct 11, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pilot Grove City Cemetery, Pilot Grove, MO with Military Honors to follow, provided by the Missouri Military Funeral Honor's Team.

Elizabeth “Betty” Wiltcher, 81 of Salisbury died October 1, 2006 at her home. Betty was born October 27, 1924 in Salisbury, MO the daughter of William and Caroline (Kottman) Bergeld. She married Hosea Merle Wiltcher in California in 1963 and he preceded her in death on August 3, 1992.

Betty was a graduate of Salisbury High School. She was a secretary. Betty was member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Salisbury.

Betty is survived by two stepsons Roger and Richard Wiltcher of the state of California, a niece Jackie Vaughn of Flagstaff, AZ, and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parent, husband, two sisters Edna Gatterman and Ruby Vaughn, a stepdaughter Janie Wiltcher.

Visitation is 10-11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 5th with service following at 11:00 a.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Burial in Eastlawn Memory Garden in Salisbury. Memorial contributions may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church.

Adam L. Henke, 26, of Columbia, formerly of Salisbury died September 28th, north of Salisbury. Adam was born December 7, 1979 in Fayette, Missouri the son of Carey and Mary Jo (Nanneman) Henke.

Adam grew up in Salisbury and had lived in Marshall and Columbia. He was a graduate of Salisbury High School class of 1998. He attended the College of the Ozarks. Adam was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Adam was a chef at CC Broilers and Murry’s Resturant in Columbia.

Adam is survived by his parents Carey and Mary Jo Henke of Salisbury; paternal grandparents Lawrence and Bernice Henke of Salisbury; maternal grandmother Frances Nanneman of Wien, MO; a sister Barbi Danniell Henke of Salisbury; two nephews Alex William of Honolulu, Hawaii and Zak Henke of Salisbury; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Lawrence Nanneman; two uncles Eddie and Farley Henke.

Visitation is Sunday from 4-8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 1, at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial is Monday, October 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph School Foundation and the Alex and Zak Educational Fund.

Margaret Mae Gerbes, 74, of Salisbury died September 26, 2006 at Chariton Park Health Care Center in Salisbury. Margaret Mae was born August 17, 1932 in Shannondale, MO the daughter of Herman Charles and Marcie Mae (Nickerson) Keeting. She married Bernard Henry “Benny” Gerbes on August 18, 1947 in Salisbury, MO and he preceded her in death on August 14, 1996.

Margaret was a lifelong area resident. She work for Cruse’s restaurant, the Biltwell Factory and was an Avon representative for many years. She belonged to the Key of Friendship Chapter of the ABWA.

A daughter Margaret Ann Owens of Jacksonville, FL; a brother Lee Keeting of Sedalia, MO; two sisters Marilyn Wilson and Wanda Sue Collins of Moberly, MO; several nieces and nephews survive Margaret. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Herman Keeting in infancy and sister Janet Mae Brockman.

Visitation is 6 - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 28th at the Summerville Funeral Home with services following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

John Wesley Eddington, DC, 75 of Salisbury died September 21, 2006 at his home. John was born October 11, 1930 in Ellsinore, Missouri the son of William and Emily Ethel (Pierce) Eddington. He married Barbara Beeler on October 20, 1966 in Kansas City, MO.

John was a graduate of Ellsinore High School. Following his graduation from High School, John joined the U.S Air Force in 1949, he served in the Korean Conflict and he received an Honorable discharge in 1960. Mr. Eddington was a graduate of Cleveland Chiropractic College in 1964 and was a member of their Alumni Association.

John opened his chiropractic business in Brunswick in 1964 and soon after in Salisbury. In 1974 he purchased a business building at 105 south Broadway and maintained his practice there until he retired in 1999. Mr. Eddington was a member of the Salisbury United Methodist Church, Ararat Shrine Temple in Kansas City, Salisbury American Legion Post, Missouri Chiropractic Association, former member of the Salisbury Kiwanis’ and Cub Scout master for several years.

His wife Barbara of the home; daughters Gail Ann Collett and husband Glenn of Lee’s Summit, MO; Susie Benner and husband Gary of Salisbury, MO; and a sister Mary Yarger of Lewisburg, PA; six grandchildren; one great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews survive John. His was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Laura Cazzell on July 21, 2002, two brothers Charles and Harold Eddington, two sisters Lillian Wallace and Annie Bowman.

Visitation was Sunday, September 24th from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury, Mo. Services were Monday, September 25th at 10:00 a.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Salisbury, MO. Military Graveside services were provided by the Salisbury American Legion Post 391 and the Cleve Iman VFW 4926. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Chariton County Child Welfare Christmas Fund.

Verna J Biere, 97, of Salisbury died September 6, 2006 at Chariton Park Health Care Center in Salisbury. Verna was born April 1, 1909 in Forest Green the daughter of Charles and Josephine (Biere) Weiseman.  She married Alvin Biere on October 22, 1930 at Salem Lutheran Church in Forest Green and he preceded her in death on March 13, 1984.

Verna was a lifelong area resident. She was a homemaker and member of the Salisbury Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Verna is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Maurice and Mary Biere of Salisbury; a daughter and son-in-law Nevalee and Harry W "Bill" Vasser of Salisbury; a sister Esther Freese of Glasgow, MO; seven grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren and two great great granddaughters. Her parents, husband, a daughter Virlea Fuemmeler; three brothers Leonard, Charles, Everett; four sisters Martha Sutter, Ruth Walchshauer, Edwena Smith; and a granddaughter preceded her in death.

Visitation is Friday, September 8, from 6 - 8:00 pm at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury.  Services are 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 9 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with burial in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Charles Leon Sanders, 79, of Glasgow died August 22, 2006 at Moberly Regional Medical Center. Charles was born November 26,1926 in Glasgow, Mo the son of Albert Tony and Laura Odell (Linneman) Sanders. Charles married Rose Etta Sparks in June 1948; she survives of Independence, MO.

Mr. Sanders was a lifelong Glasgow resident and farmer. He was a graduate of the Salisbury High School Class of 1944. He was a member of the Chariton Baptist Church.

Mr. Sanders is survived by his son Tony Sanders and wife Teresa of Glasgow, MO; a daughter Marcy Bates and husband Gary of Independence; a good friend Juanita Simpson of Armstrong, MO; a aunt Glen Etta Stone of Independence, MO; three grandchildren Shanna Bates of Independence, MO, Marcus Sanders of Glasgow, MO, Tracie Sanders of Sweet Springs, MO.

Hazel Bell Rodgers, 97, of Salisbury died Saturday, August 12, 2006 at the Moberly Regional Medical Center.

Hazel was born on April 12, 1909 in Fayette (Estil), Missouri to John Franklin and Minnie Lee (Shipley) Miller.  She married Franklin Isaac Rodgers in Salisbury on September 19, 1925, and he preceded her in death on December 18, 1966.  She was an active member of the First Baptist Church and the Pleanant Woods Baptist Church, both of Salisbury.

Mrs Rodgers was a seamstress at the Biltwell clothing factor for 17 years and owned the Robyn Rae children's store in Salisbury.  She then worked in retail sales for both Patterson's department store and Smartware clothing in Moberly. She finished her working career as a travel agent for Mid-Missouri Travel.

Hazel was an avid volunteer for many Chariton county organizations and agencies, including OATS and the Division of Aging earning her invitations to the state capital to speak on behalf of her fellow senior citizens.  She held offices with C & R Liners, Extension Club, and Rebekah's Lodge.

She is survived by three grandchildren, Robyn (Rodgers) Krogman of Georgetown, TX, Franklin Louis Rodgers of Columbia, and Jesse Lee Rodgers of Moberly; five brothers, Gordon Miller of Preston, ID, David E Miller of Temple, TX, Leon Miller of Salt Lake City, UT, Thomas A Miller of Plain City, UT and Charles Miller of Irwin, ID; two sisters, Alice Parkinson of Sugar City, ID and Bettie Yarwood of Tacoma, WA; six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank, son James Louis Rodgers (March 23, 1999), brothers John F Miller Jr, William Miller, and Dale Miller of Ririe, ID and sisters Eva Long of Ogden, UT and Virginia Scott, also of Ririe, ID.

Funeral arrangements were held Monday, August 14 at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with burial at the Clifton Hill Cemetery.  The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Assocation.

Frank William Enderle, 93, passed away Thursday, August 10th at the Brunswick Nursing Home. He was born March 8, 1913, north of Keytesville, Mo. He was the 4th of 6 sons of William and Christine Hurst Enderle.

Frank was a retired Rural Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service. He graduated from Keytesville High School, was a member of the Dalton Immanuel Methodist Church, and served aboard the USS Little in WWII. He was active in many civic and community activities and organizations.

He married Jane Kistler Enderle on May 2, 1937 in Excelsior Springs, Mo. They lived in Keytesville until January 1, 1942 when they moved to Dalton and made that their home until the summer of 2001, when they moved to the Brunswick Nursing Home.

He is survived by his two children; Daughter, Janice Pearman of Rockwall, Tx., and Son, Edward Enderle & daughter-in-law Esther of Brunswick, Mo.  Six grandchildren, Cherri Owens & husband, Dallas of Rockwall, Tx., Jeff Pearman and wife, Nancy of Highland Village, Tx, Amy Enderle and husband, Paul Wagner of Columbia, Mo., Rob Pearman of Rockwall, Tx., Carla Enderle, Columbia, Mo., Terry Enderle, Dalton, Mo.  Five great grandchildren; Drew Foutz, Alex Pearman, Avery, Zoe, & Tycho Enderle Wagner of Columbia, Mo.   Four step-great grandchildren; Charlcie, Jennifer, Rachel Owens & Josh Buckley.  One niece; Frances Littrell and one nephew, Tom Enderle.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Jane, of 67 ½ years, his parents, and his brothers Edward, Rudolph, Albert, Marvin, and George.

Funeral services were held at Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury on Monday, August 14th with Rev. Glenna McVeigh officiating. Burial in Dalton Cemetery.   Memorials may be made to the Dalton Cemetery Association and the Dalton Immanuel Methodist Church.

Sally E. Smith, 74, of Salisbury, died August 2, 2006 at Kindred Hospital in Kansas City.  Sally was born January 20, 1932 in Charleston, Missouri the daughter of Jennings Bryan Byrd and Lela (Dixon) Byrd.  She married Harry Smith on December 12, 1976 in New London, Missouri; he preceded her in death January 12, 1995.

Sally was a cook working at North Village Park in Moberly, Monroe Manor in Paris, and Chariton Park in Salisbury before her retirement.

Sally is survived by two sons Jimmie and his wife Brenda Moore of Moberly, Missouri, and Michael and his wife Kathleen of Holiday, Missouri, two daughters Tina and her husband Roger Laycock of Salisbury, Missouri, Doras and her husband Thomas Trussell of Moberly, MIssouri, a sister Dorothy Thompson of Charleston, Missouri, six grandchildren, Lance Moore, Audrea Moore, JoAnne Bishop, Christopher Moore, Kordell Moore and Jason Keeve.  A great-grandson Ryan Williams also survives.  Her brothers Andrew, William and Oscar Byrd and a sister JoAnn Byrd, preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be Monday, August 7, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Sunset Hills Cemetery in Madison with Reverend Tom Downey officiating.  Family request memorials to the American Diabetes Association.  Funeral arrangements are with Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury.

Hollis James Orr , 83, of Salisbury, died July 29, 2006 at Moberly Regional Medical Center in Moberly. Hollis was born October 1, 1922 in Salisbury, MO the son of Harry Wilson and Mary Alice (White) Orr. He married Anita Lee Harris on May 2, 1945 in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Hollis was a lifelong area resident. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, receiving a honorable discharge. He belonged to the National Rifleman’s Association, Cleve Iman V.F.W. Post #4926 in Keytesville. Hollis owned and operated Orr Truck Lines, and worked as the market manager for MFA hog facilities for 27 years.

Hollis is survived by a his wife Anita of the home; a son Paul Stephen Orr of Memphis, TN; a daughter Pamela Meyer of Jefferson City, MO; a sister Hazel Keen of Trenton, MO; four grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister Helen Vasser.

Visitation is Tuesday, August 1st from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Services are Wednesday, August 2nd at 10:30 a.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with burial in Eastlawn Memory Garden. Missouri Honor Team provided military graveside services.

Betty Sue Evans, 70, of Keytesville died July 26, 2006 at her home in Keytesville. Betty was born October 19, 1935 in Keytesville the daughter of John Daniel and Kitty Frances (Bentley) Conrad.

Betty lived most of her life in the Keytesville area. She was a homemaker and member of the Keytesville Baptist Church.

Betty is survived by a son Eddy Smith and his wife Georgia of Keytesville.

Evelyn Inez Buchanan, 97, of Salisbury, formerly of Keytesville died July 26, 2006 at Chariton Park Health Care Center. Evelyn was born October 17, 1908 in Dalton, MO the daughter of Ellis and Birdie (Bruce) Allen. She married DeWitt Talmedge Buchanan on January 19, 1932 in Keytesville, Missouri.

Evelyn was a lifelong area resident and member of Dalton 1st Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed sewing and gardening.

A daughter Marian Blank and husband James of Chula Vista, CA; a granddaughter Natosia Blank of Chula Vista, CA; a sister Albertine Mann of Columbia, MO; several nieces and nephews survive Evelyn. She was preceded in death by her husband Talmadge on May 8, 1996; parents; three sisters Sophoronia Pratt, Vergie Williams, and Anna Ruth Price.

Visitation is Noon till 1:00 p.m. with services following at 1:00 p.m., Sunday July 30th at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery north of Keytesville. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Association.

Bessie Lee (Henderson) Gatterman, 104, of Salisbury, passed away July 25, 2006 at Moberly Regional Medical Center in Moberly. She was born December 2, 1901 to E.F. and Addie (Eatherton) Henderson at College Mound, MO. Bessie married Tony Gatterman on August 25, 1920.

Bessie was a lifelong are resident, and member of the Holiness Church in Bynumville, MO. She enjoyed her flowers, which she shared with family and friends as she lived and kept her own home until the age of 101. The following year she went to live at the Chariton Park Nursing Home.

Bessie is survived by a son Wayne Gatterman and wife Doris of Callao; one son-in-law Perry Perez of Kansas City; one granddaughter Nancy Joseph and her husband Miles of Lee’s Summit, MO; three great grandchildren Rane Joseph, Taylor Joseph, Ryan Joseph and one step granddaughter Elaina. She was preceded in death by her husband Tony in 1979; one daughter Hazel (Gatterman) Perez in 2000; her parents; two brothers Mack Henderson, Victor Henderson; three sisters Beulah Conn, Iris Gatterman and Idell Harman.

Visitation is Friday, July 28th from Noon til 1:00p.m., with services following at 1:00 p.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Burial will be in the Fitzgerald Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Fitzgerald Cemetery Association.

Juanita Nadine Pearman, 74, of rural Keytesville, MO died June 28, 2006 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. Juanita was born December 5, 1931 in Keytesville, MO the daughter of William Clifford and Hazel (Fletcher) McNeall.

Juanita married Denny B. Pearman on March 9, 1952 in Brunswick, MO.

Juanita was a lifelong Chariton County resident. She was a graduate of Keytesville High School class of 1950. Juanita was a wife and homemaker until 1984 and then worked as a dietician for Chariton Park until 1989. She then owned and operated J & D’s Country Drive-in, Salisbury for 10 years. She was a member of the Keytesville First Baptist Church.

Juanita is survived by her husband Denny of the home, four son’s; David Pearman and wife Sherry of Huntsville, Rick Pearman and wife Evelyn of Keytesville, Gerald Pearman of Salisbury, Gayle Pearman and wife Kenna of Keytesville; a daughter Linda Moore of Columbia, MO; a brother Donald McNeall of Springfield, MO; a sister Wilma Haun of Springfield, MO; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Virginia Wood Beckett, 102 of Columbia, MO, formerly of Salisbury, died Saturday, June 17, 2006 at the Columbia Manor in Columbia.  She was born August 7, 1903 in Keytesville, Missouri, the daughter of Theodore and Dell (Crawley) Wood.  Virginia married W. Bryan Beckett on September 9, 1923 in Columbia and he preceded her in death on November 22, 1977.

Mrs Beckett was a homemaker and a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in rural Keytesville and the Shannondale Extension Club, she loved playing cards and to be around children.

Virginia is survived by one sister, Frances L Dierking of Columbia and many nieces and nephews.  Her parents, husband and two brothers, John O Wood and Ben Wood preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with visitation one hour prior to service time.  Burial in Asbury cemetery south of Keytesville. Memorials are suggested to the Asbury Cemetery Assn.

Irene E Biere, 80 of Salisbury died Friday, June 16, 2006 at the Boone Hospital in Columbia.  She was born February 13, 1926 in Salisbury the daughter of Herman and Laura (Borgeld) Freese.

Irene married Emerson T Biere on April 19, 1947 in Salisbury and he preceded her in death on March 14, 1998.  Mrs Biere was a housewife and a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Salisbury and the LWML.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law; Fred and Betty Biere of Beckley, WV and their four children, Jason, Jennifer, Eric and Amy; two daughters and sons-in-law; Patricia and Ronnie Wallace of Moberly and their son Brett, and Carol and Bill Vanderhof of Concordia, MO and their daughters, Nicole and Katie.  One half brother, Omer Freese of Fayette and one sister, Virginia Bliefnick of Salisbury and nieces and nephews.  Her parents, husband and two brothers, Ralph Eugene Freese and Everett Leroy Freese, preceded her in death.

Memorial funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salisbury Immanuel Lutheran church under direction of Summerville Funeral Home of Salisbury, burial in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery in Salisbury. Memorials are suggested to either Children's Mercy Hospital (Diabetes Clinic) in Kansas City or the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Mildred J Miller, 84 of Columbia, died Saturday, June 10, 2006 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.  Mildred was born September 22, 1921 in Salisbury, Missouri the daughter of S.L. and Opal (Brockman) McLean.  Mrs. Miller had lived in Columbia the past 15 years moving there from Gulfport, MS, and prior to that Salisbury.

Mildred married Thomas E Green in 1937 in Salisbury and he passed away in May 1952, in July of 1964 she married Roy W Miller and he passed away August, 1992.  She was a CAN working for George Winklemeyer and Chariton Manor for many years.

Survivors include four son and three daughters-in-law; Sam and Wanda Green of Huntsville, Bill and Cheryl Green of Columbia, Bobby and Betty Green of Lucedale, MS and John Green of Columbia; one daughter and son-in-law; Mary and Jim Hayes of Columbia; two stepsons, R W Miller of Manchester, MO; Ralph D Miller of Gulfport, MS; two step-daughters, Rita Watts of Bull Shoals, AR, and Marion J Lowell of Libery, MO; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren, and on aunt Betty Clayburg of Liberty, MO.  Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two sons, David and Larry Green, on daughter, Frances Bias and one step-son, Harold Miller.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at 2:00 PM at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with burial in the Clifton Hill Cemetery.  Visitation is one hour prior to service time.  Memorials are suggested to the Clifton Hill Cemetery Assn.

Lucille W. Fehling, 95 lifelong resident of Salisbury died Friday, June 9, 2006 at the Chariton Park Health Care Center in Salisbury. She was born March 7, 1911 in Aholt, Missouri the daughter of Joe A. and Lena (Himmelberg) Brand.

Lucille married Raymond J. Fehling on May 9, 1939 in Glasgow, Missouri and he preceded her in death on October 20, 1986.

She was a housewife and member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salisbury and the church Altar Sodality.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law; Joe and Judy Fehling and Marion and Mary Fehling of Salisbury and a daughter and son-in-law; Carolyn and Mike Laurence of Kansas City, Missouri, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a nephew, Bill Brand. Her parents, husband, one brother, Victor Brand and a grandson, Jeremiah Fehling, preceded her in death.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 10:30 at the St, Joseph Catholic Church in Salisbury with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 6 till 8:00p.m. With Rosary at 7:30p.m. Tuesday at Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury.

Roy Lee “Tick” Miller, 63 of Moberly, formerly of Salisbury passed away Thursday, June 1, 2006 at his home. He was born June 1, 1943 in Slater, Missouri to Inez Jackson.

Mr. Miller worked at the Salisbury Meat Market for many years and also worked in construction work for many years. Roy was a member of the Salisbury 2nd Baptist church.

Roy leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Dora Jane (Woods) Miller of the home, three sons, Charles Lee Miller of Fayette, Carl Falls of Slater and Adonis Adams of Brunswick, eight daughters, Mary (Ronald) Johnson of Columbia, Ginger Miller and Arletha Miller both of Moberly, Lisa (Andale) Gross of Akron, Ohio, Kayla, Stephanie and Shondaleigh White of Columbia and Stacy Miller of Brookfield, two brothers, Reuben Tisdale of Salisbury and Raymond Jackson of Bagdad, Fl; one sister, Janet Jackson of Salisbury, twenty-two grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and two sisters, Vonciel Hayes and Margeret Jackson.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 5, 2006 at 11:00a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Salisbury.

Evangeline Striegel Bales, 4 month old infant daughter of Michael and Paula (Durham) Bales died May 24, 2006 at University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia.  Evangeline was born January 17, 2006 in Ft. Riley, Kansas.

She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salisbury.  Evangeline is survived by her parents Michael and Paula Bales of the home; two brothers Anthony Bales age 6, James Bales age 5; two sisters Elizabeth Bales age 4, Crystal Bales age 2 all of the home; maternal grandparents Jerry and Sarah Durham of Slater, MO; paternal grandparents Marion and Vivian Bales of Salisbury; maternal great grandmothers Betty Watts of Carrollton and Mary Ann Durham of Slater; paternal great grandmother Evangeline Striegel of Salisbury; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kenneth Leo Day, 93, of Salisbury died May 14, 2006 at Brunswick Nursing Home. Kenneth was born November 15, 1912 in Randolph County, MO the son of Cecil R. and Lillie Alice (Farris) Day. He was united in marriage on March 16, 1935 in Huntsville, Mo with the Rev. Fred Adams officiating.

Kenneth attended the Mt. Carmel grade school, Thomas Hill High School and he graduated from the Long Beach Poly-Tech High School in California the class of 1930. He joined the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church at an early age and was a member until the closing of the church. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed reading. Kenneth was a lifelong farmer.

Kenneth is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Sue and Norvel Linneman of Salisbury; a brother Farris Day and wife Elda of Marshall, MO; grandchildren Darrell (Connie) Linneman of Springfield, Mo, Linda (David ) Hufstedler of Fulton, MO; a great granddaughter Nicole Linneman of Walker, LA; six step great grandchildren; twelve step great great grandchildren; and two nieces Rita Bristow and Ronda Wickham of Marshall, MO.

Visitation is Tuesday, May 16th from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Services are Wednesday, May 17th at 10:00 a.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home with burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Carmel Cemetery Association.

Anita Fern Watkins, age 79, died peacefully May 8, 2006 at University Hospital after a long courageous battle with emphysema.  Anita, a proud homemaker was a resident of Columbia, Missouri since 1992.  She was the 5th child of 11 born on a farm in the Rockford area to the late Judge E.T. and Lou Edna (Edwards) Guilford, so she understood the importance of the family working together and to love one another during tough times as well as good times.

After graduating from Salisbury High School in 1944, she ventured to St. Louis, MO.  Where she was employed by Good year CO and where she met her husband to be, Delbert Watkins, who was operating a very successful Standard Oil service station.  Anita and Del were married 9 August 1946 and became the proud parents of two children.

Del preceded her in death in 2002.  Anita was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister Gwyndolin (Nadine) Linneman, 5 brothers; Eunice T Guildfor Jr, who was killed in action in WWII, Kenneth Guilford, Francis (Squeaky) Guilford, Phillip Guilford, and Charles Guilford.

She is survived by her daughter Brenda Lee Hecker, who cared for  her in her home the past 3 1/2 years and her son Donald Watkins and his wife Faye, Parker, CO; 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Gene Guilford of St. Louis, MO, Floyd (Bonnie) Guilford and James (Linda) Guilford of Salisbury, MO and one sister Kathryn (Ed) Ponder of Colorado Springs, CO; three sister-in-law, Dorothy, Leota and Inanell Guilford of the Salisbury area and Mae Guilford of Columbia, MO.  Plus many nieces and nephews.

At Anita's request, graveside service is May 9th at 3:30 pm at Asbury Cemetery south of Keytesville, MO under the direction of Summerville Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions to be made to the Asbury Cemetery in care of Summerville Funeral Home, Inc., 601 E 24 Hwy, Salisbury, MO  65281.

Thomas “T.J.” Eads, III, of Raymore, MO, formerly of Salisbury died Thursday, May 4th due to an automobile accident. T.J. was born September 22, 1985 in Kansas City, MO the son of Thomas and Melody (Thornburg) Eads, Jr.

T.J. moved to Salisbury from Lee’s Summit, Mo in 1997. He was a graduate of the Salisbury High School Class of 2004, graduated from Moberly Vo. Tech, and was a senior attend DeVry Institute in Kansas City, MO. While at Salisbury High School he was a member of the FFA for 4 years, holding office of Vice President and Chaplain his senior year. He was a member of the Salisbury Panther’s football team for 3 years. He was a member of the Skills USA for 2 years and held the office of Chaplain his senior year. T.J. was also a member of the Linux Club at DeVry. He was a member of the Salisbury United Methodist Church.

T.J. is survived by his parents Tom and Melody Eads of Salisbury; a brother Robert Eads of Salisbury; maternal grandmother Eugenia Striegel Thornburg of Raymore, MO; paternal grandparents Tom and Patricia Eads of Warsaw, MO; several aunts, uncle, and cousins. His maternal grandfather Robert Thornburg preceded him in death.

Visitation is 4-8:00 p.m., Sunday, May 7th at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Services are Monday, May 8th at 11:00 a.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home with burial in Eastlawn Memory Gardens.

Keith “Tickie” Richardson, 62, of Keytesville, MO died May 2, 2006 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. Keith was born March 19, 1944 in Keytesville, MO the son of Luther and Ruth (Crisman) Richardson. He married Judy Sanders on June 6, 1967 in Blue Springs, MO.

Keith worked as a forklift mechanic in Kansas City until 1976. After moving back to Keytesville in 1976 he worked for the Keytesville School district for 22 years as there mechanic and building maintence person, and held the same position in the Higbee School district for 3 years. He served in the U.S. Navy. Keith served on the Keytesville Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years and on the Keytesville Township Board.

Keith is survived by his wife Judy of the home; a daughter Deanna Wright and husband Roy of Keytesville; two sisters Ella Frances Bowman of Sedalia, MO, Lennie Hopkins of Odessa, MO; two grandchildren Candi and Tiffany Wright of Keytesville; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parent, five brothers Roger, Leffard, Herbert, Bobby, and Roy; a sister Bonnie Meyer.

Visitation is 5-8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4th at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Graveside services are Friday, May 5th at 11:00 a.m. at Asbury Cemetery south of Keytesville, with Military services provided by the American Legion Post 391 and the VFW Post 4926. Mildred K. Huss, 75, of Moberly, formerly of Salisbury died May 3, 2006 at Moberly Regional Medical Center. Mildred was born May 22, 1930 in Salisbury, MO the daughter of William B. and Bertha E. (Ginter) Abeln. She married Raymond F. Huss on April 18, 1950 in Wien, MO and he preceded her in death on June 21, 1984.

Mildred worked at the Biltwell Clothing Factory from 1950-1967, Holbrook Cleaners, as a bookkeper for the Missouri Public Service Company until her retirement in 1985, and part-time at the Wishing Well Florist. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salisbury, member of Beta Sigma Phi – Laureate Beta Tau Sorority, and the Young and Old Canasta players. Mildred enjoyed gardening, sewing, crochet, and quilting.

Mildred is survived by her son Bill Huss and wife Sharyn of Moberly, MO; grandaugther Lisa of Chicago, Ill; a brother Ervin Abeln of Moberly, MO; four sisters Virginia Shatto of Macon, Mo, Dorothy Weimer of Salisbury, Nadine Trollinger of Lee’s Summitt, MO, and Laveda Niemeier of Salisbury, MO; a step granddaughter Robin Regan;a step grandson Michael Mize; a step great grandson Christopher Spray; and special friend Tom Kuhlman. Her husband, and brother Maurice Abeln preceded her in death.

Mass of Christian Burial is Saturday, May 6th at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salisbury. Virgil Taylor Smith, 94, lifelong resident of Salisbury, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at Moberly Regional Medical Center. He was born March 2, 1912 in Salisbury the son of Clyde and Laura (Cash) Smith. Virgil married Georgia Mary Dorrill in Baltimore, MD in January 1943, and she preceded him in death on October 20, 1990.

Virgil own and operated Smith Chevrolet, until he was drafted into the Army during WWII. Following his discharge from the Army he worked for the Salisbury Postal Service. Virgil was engaged in farming all his life. He was a member of the Salisbury United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter Laura Sue Atkinson and husband Earl of Salisbury; four grandchildren Steve Atkinson, Dave Atkinson, Susie Atkinson, Mary Atkinson; two great grandchildren Kayleigh Atkinson and John Taylor Atkinson; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six brothers Charlie, Horace, Marvin, Hugh, and two at infancy; four sisters Izora, Bertha, Marie and Irma.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 21, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation from 1:00 til service time at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Burial in Salisbury City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salisbury United Methodist Church or Donor’s Choice.

Pearl Elizabeth Epperson, 88, of Sumner, Missouri died Monday, April 17, 2006 at Moberly Regional Medical Center.  She was born September 7, 1917 in Alberta, Canada the daughter of Carl and Winnie Nunnemaker.

Pearl married Raymond Epperson in California in the year of 1941 and he preceded her in death, January 1968.  They moved to Sumner in 1959.  Pearl was a cook for Pershing Memorial Hospital in Brookfield for 8 year retiring in 1977.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol and her husband Bill Marek of Salisbury, Ila Epperson and friend, Charlie Smith of Sumner, step-son Norman Epperson of Columbus, Ca; four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Pearl was preceded in death by her parent, husband, two brothers, George Nunnemaker and Rocky Stone, two sisters, Mary McGinnis and Roberta Foltz, a grandson, Wade Epperson and a granddaughter, Kim Adam.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with burial in Lakeside Cemetery in Sumner.  Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. till service time Wednesday.  In lieu of flowers family suggest memorials to Sumner American Legion Auxiliary or St Joseph Foundation in Salisbury.

Thelma Carter Cacioppo, 80, of Keytesville died April 12, 2006 at her home. Thelma was born December 8, 1925 in Keytesville, Mo the daughter of Berry O. and Alice (Kaneer) Littleton. She married Charles Lester Carter in 1953 and he preceded her in death. In 1969 Thelma married Alex Cacioppo and he preceded her in death on May 23, 1998.

Mrs. Cacioppo was a lifelong Keytesville resident. She own and operated Thelma’s Beauty Shop and worked at Chariton Park Nursing Home. Thelma was a member of the Keytesville United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Cacioppo is survived by a son Jackie Ray Wilson and wife Sandy of Jacksonville, N.C.; a daughter Shirley Lewis and husband John of Keytesville, MO; a brother Delbert Littleton of Moberly, MO; a sister Libby Bentley and husband Billy Jack of Brunswick; nine grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; and several nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and sister Barbara Williams.

Heber Wayne Hinkle, 84, of Salisbury died April 3, 2006 at Moberly Regional Medical Center. Heber was born September 2, 1921 in Hamden, MO the son of Thomas and Charity (Hammons) Hinkle. He married Margaret Ross on December 13, 1946 in Independence, MO, and she preceded him in death on April 14, 2000.

Mr. Hinkle was a lifelong Chariton County Resident and was a self-employed farmer. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, receiving a purple heart. He was of the Church of God Holiness faith.

John Lowry Cross, 97, of Salisbury died March 21, 2006 at Moberly Regional Medical Center.  Lowry was born January 7, 1909 the son of Yeaman and Lizzie (Hunker) Cross.  He married Mildred Louise Cooper of Prairie Hill on August 8, 1936 and she died on June 30, 1966.  On October 7, 1967 he married Jewell Walker Nelson and she preceded him in death in April, 1977.

Lowry graduated from William Jewell College in 1931.  He was a high school math and physics teacher and coach for 12 years, threes years at Prairie Hill, six years at Salisbury, and three years in Michigan. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy.  After the war, he became engaged in grain and livestock farming in the Salisbury area.  While farming, he served on the MFA Board and the Salisbury R-4 School board for 18 years.

In 1971, he retired to the Golden Beach area of The Lake of the Ozarks, where he sold real estate for 10 years.  He is a long time member of the Prairie Hill Baptist Church and the American Legion Post of Salisbury.

Lowry is survived by two sons, Jack Cross and wife Kay of Salisbury; Jim Cross and wife Diana of Salisbury, a sister Margaret Dodge of Forest Green, MO; five grandchildren, Lisa Wild, Cindy Fitzgerald, Jimmy, Jeremy and John Cross; and six great grandchildren.  A son Thomas Leighton Cross preceded him in death in 1955 at the age of 4, and two brothers, Albert Y and Martin L Cross.

Funeral services will be held, Thursday, March 23, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with burial in the Prairie Hill Cemetery in Prairie Hill, MO.   Military Graveside by the Cleve Iman Memorial VFW Post 4926 and the Salisbury American Legion Post #391 will provide services.  Visitation will be held Thursday from 1:00 pm until service time at 2:00 pm at the funeral home.  Memorials can be made to the Prairie Hill Cemetery Assn.

Wilhelmina “Minnie” Katherine Bentley, 101, a lifelong resident of Salisbury died Friday, March 10th at Chariton Park Health Care Center in Salisbury. Minnie was born July 16, 1904 in Milton, Missouri the daughter of Henry and Wilhelmina (Haak) Speiser. She married Jordan Bentley on December 6, 1941 in Washington, D.C. and he preceded her in death on February 15, 1981.

Mrs. Bentley was a graduate of Salisbury High School and the Chillicothe Business College. She was a secretary for the Navy in Washington, D.C., the treasurer for the State of Missouri in Jefferson City, numerous lawyers in Salisbury, and at the Chariton County Courthouse in Keytesville. Mrs. Bentley was a member of the Salisbury First Baptist Church, taught the Jr. Dept. at Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Salisbury Garden Club, Friendly Neighbors, early member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club in Salisbury. She was very active in the Chariton County Historical Society and was a charter member in helping establish the museum.

Mrs. Bentley is survived by a daughter Susan Franklin of Newport Beach, CA; two stepson’s David Bentley of Surprise, AZ; and Jordan Bentley, Jr of Middleburg, Virginia; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers Edward; Robert; Arthur; George; and Fred Speiser; a sister Hattie Biere.

Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 14th at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Services will be Wednesday, March 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home with burial in Forest Green Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salisbury First Baptist Church or the Chariton County Historical Society.

Joseph Vincent Poeschl, 52, of Salisbury, MO, died March 12, 2006 at Moberly Regional Medical Center. Joseph was born September 28, 1953 in Marceline, MO the son of Edwin John and Anna Rita (Gladbach) Poeschl. He married Judy Westhues on April 24, 1976 in Glasgow, MO and she survives of the home.

Mr. Poeschl was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School – Class of 1971, and had attended the University of Missouri for 2 years. Joseph was a self-employed farmer, state certified general real estate appraiser, and realtor working for AREA Realtors in Salisbury. He was a member of the St. Mary’s of the Angel Catholic Church in Wien, Salisbury Knights of Columbus, on the board of directors for the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Hamden, President Elect of the Central Missouri Board of Realtors, and member of the National Association of Realtors.

Joseph is survived by his wife Judy; a son John Poeschl of Madison, Wisconsin; a daughter Jennifer Kohlbrecher and husband Doug of Kansas City, MO; two sisters Kathy Hagedorn of Glasgow, MO, Sister Mary Ann Poeschl of Canton Mississippi; his in-law’s Norbert and Ruth Westhues of Glasgow; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother John E. Poeschl on May 7, 1971.

Visitation is Wednesday, March 15th from 4-8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Mass of Christian Burial is Thursday, March 16th at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Mary’s of the Angel Catholic Church in Wien, MO. Burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Hamden, MO. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

OLIVIA MARIE GOTMER, 93, of Salisbury died March 3, 2006 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. Olivia was born July 27, 1912 in West Glasgow, Missouri the daughter of August B. and Catherine (Olendorff) Nolke. She married John H. Gotmer on December 26, 1942 in Glasgow, Mo and he preceded her in death on March 16, 1990.

Mrs. Gotmer had lived in rural Gilliam, MO, before moving to Salisbury in September of 2004. She had worked as a telephone operator and bookkeeper for Mid Missouri Telephone in Gilliam, MO. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and the St. Joseph Altar Sodality in Slater.

Mrs. Gotmer is survived by two daughters Diane Bennett and husband Marvin of Salisbury, Darlene Johnson and husband Richard of Gladstone, MO; a brother Vernon Nolke of Columbia, MO; three grandchildren Lisa Fuemmeler, Curtis Bennett, Bryan Bennett; six great grandchildren Justin, Brandon, Lindsey, Allen, Devon, Makayla; several nieces and nephews. Her parents; husband; three brothers Herbert Nolke, Walter Nolke, Donald Nolke; two sisters Agnes Granneman, Leona Hackman; and a grandson Patrick Johnson preceded her in death.

Visitation is Sunday, March 5th from 4-8:00 p.m. with a 7:30 Rosary at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30, Monday, March 6th at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salisbury with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the St. Joseph School Foundation, the St. Mary’s School in Glasgow, and the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

William “Bill” Edward Leven, 69, of Salisbury died February 22, 2006 at his home. Bill was born July 18, 1936 in Moberly, MO the son of Edward and Hazel (Heiman) Leven. He married Ruth Ann Eisberg on February 14, 1959 in Salisbury.

Mr. Leven was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Salisbury High School, Class of 1954. Bill worked as an operator for the City of Salisbury Water Plant from June 1986 until his retirement on December 31, 2005 due to health problems. Bill wouldn’t call it a day until the water tower was full, even if it took three wells to fill it. He also was a truck driver and farmer. He took over the family farm in 1951 at the age of 14, after the death of his father. Bill was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Forest Green, a former member of the Salisbury Lions Club, a FFA Alumni, and a long time board member of the Salisbury Rural Fire Department.

Mr. Leven is survived by his wife Ruth Ann of the home, two son’s Scott Leven and his wife Cindy of Springfield, MO; Shawn Leven and his wife Beth of Chesterfield, MO; two grandchildren Ryan and Allison Leven of Chesterfield, MO. His parents, and a stepmother Wanita Leven preceded him in death.

Visitation is 6-8:00 p.m., Friday, February 24th at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury. Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25th at the Summerville Funeral Home with burial in Asbury Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chariton County Community Foundation, Salem Lutheran Church or Charity of Donor’s Choice.

Grace Bell Pressley, 96, resident of Salisbury, died Sunday, February 12, 2006 at The Bluffs in Columbia, MO.  She was born September 24, 1909 in Sparta, Illinois the daughter of James and Ella (McGill) Wood.

Grace married Rolland B. Pressley on June 20, 1929 in Sparta, Illinois and he preceded her in death on December 21, 1981.

Mrs. Pressley owned and operated the Pressley Clothing Store in Sparta for many years.  She was a member of the Salisbury United Methodist Church, the church quilting group and the P.E.O. Chapter BD of Salisbury.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law; Dr Jim and Mary Lou Pressley of San Antonio, TX; one daughter-in-law; Barbara Pressley of Columbia, MO; seven grandchildren, Dr Mark Pressley, Dr. Kevin Pressley, Marta Fuemmeler, Karen Sutterer, Jim Pressley, Richard Pressley and Linda Brookover, eight great grandchildren Aaron, Emily, Matthew and Angela Pressley, Rhys Fuemmeler, Alex and Amanda Brookover and Kyra Sutterer.  Grace was preceded in death by her husband, one son; Dr. Donald C Pressley February 23, 2005, four brothers William E Wood, Dr. Jay Lester Wood and two at early childhood, two sisters, Mabel McClean and Lottie Courney.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 17, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with visitation from 1:00 pm till service time. Burial in Eastlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Salisbury.  Memorials are suggested to the Dr. Donald C Pressley Memorial Scholarship Fund (U.S. Bank, 218 S Broadway, Salisbury, MO 65281). Arnold Pershing Huddle, 87, lifelong resident of Keytesville, Missouri died Saturday, February 4, 2006 at the Pioneer Skilled Nursing Center in Marceline, Missouri.  He was born August 28, 1918 in Keytesville the son of Edward and Sallie (Quick) Huddle.  Arnold graduated from Keytesville High School Class of 1937.  He served for his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving most of the time in the Aleutian Islands.  He received an honorable discharge in October, 1945.  Arnold married Elwanda Yates November 15, 1941 in Keytesville, MO and she survives of the home.

Mr. Huddle was an estimator for Kansas City Power and Light Co for 37 years, retiring in 1983. Arnold was a member of the Keytesville First Christian Church, the Rucker-McAlister American Legion Post #7 in Brunswick, MO and Brunswick VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Elwanda of the home, two sons a daughter-in-law; Kenny Huddle of Keytesville and Danny and Laurel Huddle of DeWitt, MI; two daughters and sons-in-law; Carolyn and Gayle Russell of Marceline and Donna Jean and Danny Bears of Princeton, MO; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two nephews and one niece.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Everett, John and Morgan and three sisters,  Fannie Mills, Helen Huddle, and Elizabeth Nave.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with burial in the Keytesville City Cemetery where Military graveside services will be provided by the Rucker-McAlister American Legion Post #7 of Brunswick, MO.  Visitation is Monday from 5 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the Pioneer Skilled Nursing Center in Marceline, MO.

Jesse Eugene Hershey, 94 of Keytesville died Friday, February 3, 2006 at the Pershing Memorial Hospital in Brookfield. He was born June 14, 1911 in rural Keytesville the son of Jesse Thomas and Julie (Manning)Hershey. 

Jesse married Eula Vonceil Lee on February 22, 1933 and she preceded him in death on February 20, 1985.

Mr. Hershey was a lifelong resident of Keytesville where he was a lifestock farmer raising cattle and hogs.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law; Bobby and Jean Evelyn Hershey of Keytesville; three daughters and three sons-in-law; Jesse Lee and Herbert Fry of Brookfield, Mo; Bonnie and Paul Barnes of Macon, Mo; and Georgia and Lloyd Lenderman of West Terre Haute, Ind. 12 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren, 14 Great, Great Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, wife and three brothers, George, Ogle and Charles, 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

Funeral services will be held Monday February 6, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury with burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery North of Keytesville. Visitation is Sunday from 2 till 4:00p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Assn.

Margaret Ruth Jackson was born February 20, 1938 in Dalton, Missouri to Inez Jackson. She departed this life, Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the Chariton Pak Health Care Center in Salisbury at the age of 67 years. 

Margaret volunteered at the Salisbury Head Start for many years. She was a lifelong member of the Salisbury Second Baptist Church.

A father and her mother and a sister Vaughncille Hayes preceded Margaret in death. Margaret will be remembered as a loving person who loved her family and her friends. She smiled a great deal and will be sadly missed by all.
